Risi Competizione Post Race Report: 6 hours of Indianapolis

The Tire Rack.com Battle On The Bricks for the IMSA WeatherTech Championship 6-hour race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway today was not the Risi Competizione team’s strongest race of the 2024 season.

The No. 62 Risi Ferrari 296 GT3, with drivers Davide Rigon and Daniel Serra, finished ninth in today’s race in the GTD Pro class. Rain came just 15 minutes into the six-hour race and the team could not seem to get in a position of contention all race despite a high of P3 during one of the six full course cautions.

Competing in just five races this season to contend for the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup (IMEC) Championship, points at different endurance race intervals is the name of the game.

Today’s ninth-place finish at the 2.439 mile, 14-turn “Brickyard” road course will make their final race at Petit Le Mans more challenging to seek their second IMEC championship, which they won two years ago. Official IMEC points standing are being calculated.

Quotes:

Davide Rigon, driver, No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3:

“It was not an amazing race for us today. It was difficult to overtake. We were lacking a bit of power and very heavy for the BOP. The strategy at the start with the rain was not easy and we did not have the best set-up for those conditions. We lost a lap and were not able to recover the lap until the end of the race but it was too late to make enough progress then. We will do our best to come back and overcome at Petit Le Mans next month.”

Daniel Serra, starting driver, No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3:

“Unfortunately, it was not our day. We had some mistakes on the strategy. We went a lap down and there was not a lot to do to come back after that. Next race at Road Atlanta, which is usually a good track for us so we’ll see.”

Sponsors for this race for Risi Competizione included Pennzoil, Ferrari of Houston, OMP Racing and DEA.

The next and final race 2024 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup (IMEC) Championship race for the Houston, Texas-based Risi Competizione team is Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, October 10-12.
